If you need to take a hiatus or drop a character, that's a-ok! Just let us know via this page. Proper hiatus/drop notices make life easier for your mods and fellow players, and help you avoid idle penalties, so please take a moment to review the information here and fill out the appropriate form!
► What happens to my character when I go on hiatus?
You have a few options; first, you may set your character(s) on autopilot, and assume they're doing what they normally do. Second, if you plan to be gone awhile, your character(s) may slip through a sudden "Void Door" into the "space between worlds". In this space they'll have no concept of time passing, and will only feel as if they're floating in "nothing" for an indeterminate time, semi-conscious, until another Door opens and they return. Lastly, you may arrange with the mods for your character to enter a Door back to their own world for a canon update, or to another dimension entirely. This requires special permission, so send us an email at utopiquerp@gmail and let us know what you'd like to do. We'll approve canon updates asap and work out other plans with you as quickly as we can. In any case Doors will always be random and characters can't enter them deliberately, only by unknowingly going through an affected doorway.
► How long does my hiatus have to be to qualify for AC exemption?
As a reminder, activity requirements are 2-4 threads totaling at least 20 comments from you. To be exempt from AC, your hiatus must include two weeks (14 days) of the month in which you want the exemption, and must be submitted to this post before the AC period is over. You can hiatus retroactively, as long as it's still within the month the hiatus applies to. So if it's July 31st and you realize you haven't tagged since the 6th, it's OK to post a hiatus lasting the 6th to the 31st, but once it's August, you've missed your window for July hiatus.
There is no hard limit for the number of months in a row that you may hiatus, but the mods will speak to players who are consistently inactive. We're happy to work with anyone with extenuating circumstances, but reserve the right to ask for additional activity, or to remove players who cannot or will not be active members of the community. Also, in months where you take an activity exemption for any reason, you may not submit your extra threads for points.
► What happens to my character when I drop?
Characters who drop ICly enter doors back to their own worlds. This is not controlled by the PCs or NPCs and is a random occurrence. A dropping character will simply walk through an affected doorway and disappear, as applies to hiatused characters.
Reapped characters may retain their memory of their previous stay only if they are being reapped by the last person who played them. If Jack drops Batman, and Jill picks him up, he won't remember anything. If Jill then drops and reclaims two months later, Batman can remember or not remember his previous stay with Jill playing, at her discretion. If Jill drops again, and Jack reapps, Batman will have no memories. (Poor Batman.)
